The Wild Turkey Race Tune Up

This 6 week program will guide you through your training for the big race on Thanksgiving! The program is open to runners of all levels and everyone will be placed in a group of athletes with similar abilities. Those not participating in a race on Thanksgiving are still encouraged to attend, as this can establish a great base as we head into the winter months. All those who sign up for clinic will be given an entry for the Wild Turkey race.

Instructors: Mike Toomey and Jennifer Toomey. Mike Toomey owns his own sports massage and sports therapy business. He specializes in Active Release Technique�, deep tissue and sports massage. Mike is a USATF Certified Coach. He has been the featured speaker on middle distance running for many high school coaching clinics and has coached runners for the past 15 years. He is currently the head coach in XC and Track & Field at Lynn English High School . Jennifer Toomey is 3 US National Champ. She has been on 3 World championship teams, is the American Record holder for 1000m, and was the runner up for 1500m at the 2004 Olympic Trials. She recently qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials in the 800 and 1500m.

When: Wednesdays 6:30-7:30, starting October 22

Wicked Frosty Four

2nd Annual Wicked Frosty Four miler (Rain, Snow, Nor’easter, Blizzard, or Shine).
New Year's Day, January, 1st 2009 at 10am
Location: is at the Old Town Hall 8:30am-9:30am. Race start is on Front Street.
Parking: Public parking lots available as well as on street parking.
Course: Very fast and flat wheel measured 4 miles (water stops). Splits at each mile.
Entry fee: $18 for entries received by December 25th, $21 thereafter

Packet Pick Up: Join us for some pre holiday cheer and pick up your race packets from 10am to 5pm on December 31st at New England Running Co., Commodore Plaza, 43 Enon St., Beverly, MA 01915. Early pick up qualifies you to register for a free pair of Brooks Running shoes. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres to be served. Compliments of New England Running Co., Brooks and Wicked Running Club. Race packets can also be picked up morning of race.
Awards: Trophies for overall 1st place male and female winners. Age group medals for top 3 male and females: under 19, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Results to be posted on Coolrunning.
T-Shirts: Technical Shirts free for the first 200 applicants.
Post-Race: Post race food and beverages provided. Awards and a raffle will follow.

2009 Race Series

The inaugural race series in 2008 was such a success; we are once again providing the opportunity for runners of all levels to experience a wide variety of Salem races. From the chill of January to the heat of August, from 1 mile to a half marathon and from a flat and fast course to cross country - this series is intended to encourage you to train for and experience the best racing that Salem has to offer.

All races start in Salem , MA and support City of Salem Recreation programs for all ages. By participating in and supporting all five races your versatility will be awarded with a commemorative fleece or running jacket!

The 2009 race series includes:

Thursday, 1/1: Frosty Four New Years Day Race
10 a.m. 4 miles, relatively flat course, some rolling hills
In partnership with the Wicked Running Club

Sunday, 3/22: 5k Cross-Country Run at Olde Salem Greens
9 a.m., 5k, hilly and challenging course
A portion of proceeds benefit Salem High School Cross Country

Friday, August 21: The Derby Mile
7 p.m., One mile flat and fast course; great family run
A portion of proceeds benefit Boys & Girls Club of Salem

Saturday, September 26- Wicked Half Marathon
8 a.m., 13.1 mile loop through Salem and Marblehead
