On behalf of SalemPark, Recreation and Community Services, thank you to everyone who helped make the 8th Annual Derby Street Mile on the evening of Friday, August 17, another great event!
The weather was perfect for a night time race in the Runner Friendly Community of Salem which saw lots of enthusiasm from the runners, sponsors, volunteers and the Salem Police Department who joined forces for this run. Downtown Salemwas alive with cheers and positive energy as 500 runners of all ages and skills completed the one mile run starting at the Salem Willows, down historic Derby Streetand finishing at the National Park Service Building at Pickering Wharf.
Congratulations to the winner and new course record holder Den Kramer, who ran a 4:18 mile and first female finisher was Renee Gordon from Eugene Oregon who ran a 5:05 mile
Race sponsors included: Waterfront Hotel & Suites, Finz Restaurant, North Face, CBPhotography, The Salem Trolley, East Boston Savings Bank, B&S Fitness, The Stephen M. O’Grady Foundation and the Boston Herald.
Salemis lucky to have so many great volunteers who donate their time to make events like this possible. Special thanks to the Salem Police, who once again did a great job of controlling the street and traffic to make it a safe race for runners and the National Park Service for providing the use of their building for our timing services.
