Bridge & Back 10K to Benefit the Boys & Girls Club- Thank You!

On a beautiful August Sunday morning, Heritage Days in Salem was kicked off by nearly 400 runners, volunteers and spectators who took to the streets of Salem and Beverly for the 1st Annual Bridge & Back 10K run to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem.

The Bridge & Back 10K race gives a nod to the original Heritage 10K road race which kicked off Heritage Week in Salem for about 35 years before ending in the 1990’s.

On behalf of the 1,000+ members of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem, thank you to all the Runners who participated in our inaugural event which spanned the cities of Salem and Beverly. It marked the first road race to use the Sgt. James Anthony Ayube II  bypass road and the challenging Salem/Beverly Bridge.

This community event would not be possible without the support of our generous sponsors. Major sponsors include the Tavern in the Square, New England Running Company, and Sam Adams. Additional sponsors include B&S Fitness, North Shore Road Race Guide, Boston Herald, Saucony, Tee Time Grill, Nelson Gagnon of Rooter-Man To The Rescue, East Boston Savings Bank, Kaloutas Painting, the Stephen M. O’Grady Foundation, Hint Water and Yasso Frozen Yogurt.
We are grateful to the many volunteers who donated their morning to volunteer, including:  Tim Short, Beth O’Grady, Mara Mendlesohn, Denise Ramsdell, TR Ramsdell, Stephanie Haygard, Amy Walsh, Melissa Barker, Lisa Kelly, Patty Gouthro, Kelly Morris, Peter Graves, Lauren Gabel, Julie Arrison,  Amy Walsh, Susan Hennessey, Sheila Chandler, Susan Frasca, Michele Campbell, Richard Stafford, Jonal Roberts, Andre Daley, Ricky Arias, Bryan Martinez, Emily Arias, Marc Gomez, Alex Sanchez, Juandry Canela, Jeffrey Maldonado. Special thanks to Gif Campbell for the great photos he took on the course, the Salem and Beverly Police for keeping our runners safe and controlling traffic during the race and the Salem and Beverly residents who cheered along and encouraged our runners on the course.

Again, thank you to everyone for making this a fantastic inaugural event to benefit programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem

Reach the Beach Relay – Please support Boys & Girls Club

February 4th, 2013
Reach the Beach Relay to Support the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem
I am excited to be Team Captain for my first Reach the Beach Relay Race. I have been running for over 30 years. I’ve run in hundreds of road races and directed over 40, including the Wild Turkey 5 Mile Run on Thanksgiving Day. But my favorite running event to participate in is the relay race, where team members support each other on the course, working together towards one goal. I’ve participated in a number of relays such as Lake Winnipesaukee, Mill Cities and Lynn Woods, but this will be my first 24 hour relay race. I look forward to the team camaraderie both on and off the course as we work together to complete the race, and meet our personal and team fundraising goals to support programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem.
The Reach the Beach Relay will take place on May 17 & 18. It is a 200 mile run from Mt. Wachusett to Westport, MA. The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem has formed a team of 12 runners who will take turns running continuously day and night until we reach the finish line, with each runner raising a minimum of $1,000 in support of this cause. Our team is ready for the challenge! I hope you will consider making a donation to this worthwhile cause to support the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem. You can make a donation at this link: http://www.bgcgs.org/give/doug
The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem is the second oldest club in America and has been fulfilling the same mission for over 140 years: to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Today, the Club serves over 1,200 members in Salem and Peabody, ages 8-18, with an average daily attendance of 150+ youth. The membership dues for the Club’s drop-in program are just $10 per school year, including a wide range of programs such as homework help, dance, athletics, nature studies, leadership activities and career and college planning. All programs are mentored by professional staff and support the goals of the Salem school district.
Thank you,
Doug
